Unable to reliably measure growth and revenue of a private Chinese telecommunications company, the client approached System2 for guidance. Specifically, the client wanted to know if it was possible to count and track the number of cell towers inside China.
System2 started with getting a deep understanding of the space through interviews with installers and cell site engineers. System2 engaged vendors from cell survey companies, crowd sourced apps, satellite, and government databases. Synthesizing cross-industry knowledge and data evaluation expertise, System2 determined the optimal data source was a geolocation service provider, with a database of daily updates, that uses both WiFi and Cell IDs.
System2 analyzed the data to extract growth rates and deliver updates to the client on a weekly basis. The client was able to monitor growth of Cell IDs in the Chinese market to better gauge the operations of the telecommunications company. In addition, by partnering with System2, the geolocation service provider realized a new revenue stream.
